Greg Burns is a versatile classical trombonist with an unorthodox performing experience. Whenever possible he enjoys showing his musical flexibility, performing with a flair not only on tenor trombone but also on alto trombone and euphonium.
Greg holds an Artist Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Glenn Gould School, where he studied with Gord Wolfe, Principal Trombone of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and a Bachelor of Music Degree in Trombone Performance from the University of Calgary, where he took lessons with Jim Scott, Principal Trombone of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Greg is also a proud alumnus of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada.
As an orchestral musician, Greg performs with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Calgary Opera, and the Red Deer Symphony. He has also performed as a soloist with Alberta Winds and the University of Calgary Symphonic Band. His chamber work is mostly with Calgary’s groundbreaking Timepoint Ensemble, with whom he enjoys performing cutting-edge new music with electronics. He has previously served in the Canadian Forces as a musician in the Ottawa’s prestigious Band of the Ceremonial Guard. Greg was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, and spends his free time tasting espresso and watching hockey.
